Baphomet is a symbolic figure often depicted as a winged, goat-headed humanoid with both male and female traits, sitting in a meditative pose. The modern image of Baphomet was popularized in the 19th century by occultist Éliphas Lévi, who described it as representing the union of opposites—such as good and evil, male and female, and human and animal—symbolizing balance and enlightenment. Though sometimes associated with Satanism, especially by critics, Baphomet is more accurately viewed as an esoteric icon in occult traditions.
